Both the Arctic and the South China Sea conflicts have for decades received attention of the international community for various factors, geopolitics, strategic and security considerations, freedom of navigation as well as international shipping. Both seas play a significant role in these aspects. The edited volume discusses pertinent issues dealing with the security and sovereignty of maritime states in both the Arctic and the South China Sea from five points: 1) Geopolitics of the Arctic and the South China Sea: recent developments; 2) Legal issues of conflicts in the Arctic and the South China Sea; 3) Issues related to international shipping in the Arctic and the South China Sea; 4) Voices of stakeholders (China, Canada, the U.S.A) in the Arctic and the South China Sea; and 5) Prospects for cooperation and competition in the South China Sea and the Arctic.
