The Republic: The Republic covers different aspects of Plato's ideological system, including philosophy, ethics, education, literature and art, politics and so on. It is designed to explore the problem of the ideal State. The book is a Socratic dialogue. Plato establishes a regime of the true, the good and the beautiful, and finally of justice, through Socrates’ conversations with others. The republic is the beginning of utopia. He thinks the existing politics is corrupted, philosophers should rule, and only philosopher-kings are able to save the city from crisis. This belief forms the core of the mature political philosophy of Plato. "Philosopher" has a special meaning to Plato. He believes they are the noblest, the most knowledgeable persons. And the government system of sages is the best of all. Therefore, the ideal country should be ruled by philosopher-kings. This country will exist as an example in heaven.
