Mountain Scenes tells that Marcelo, who was brought up in Madrid and used to city life, decided to visit his uncle Celso in northern mountainous areas after receiving his letters. Marcelo’s experience in hometown, things he loved and hated are also described. There are four relationships in the work, with different endings. The book also depicts many characters, including Marcelo, the hero, priest, village doctor, maid, pedlar and villagers, their life, work and their relations, hails people’s honesty and kindness and criticized evil. Stories are told from Marcelo’s perspective. Mountain Scenes is a masterpiece of one of the most brilliant and representative Spanish writer Jose Maria de Pereda.
