Matteo Ricci (1552-1610), an Italian missionary, was the first foreigner who translated The Four Classics into Latin and introduced them to Europe. He lived in China for 28 years, and tried his best to blend into the Chinese society by speaking, writing and dressing in Chinese ways. He published over a dozen books in Chinese, in which he expressed his best wishes to bridge the East and the West and Chinese culture and European culture.
