Gu Cheng is definitely one of the most important poets in the new period of China’s contemporary poetry. Starting composing poems since his childhood, he has a lively style of language, but he has ended his life desperately before 40. Even though his life is under controversial judgments, his talent expressed in his poems is undeniable. This collection has included poems of Gu Cheng in his early years (before 1984), which are regarded as representative pieces of “misty poetry”. This translator, Harvell Martin Rios, is both a comparative literature scholar of Granada University in Spain and a poet.
