It is just the beginning of 2016. In 3 days, i.e, on January 9th, the New Delhi World Book Fair will be opened and a splendid view of the international cultural exchanges will be presented in India, one of the ancient civilizations in the world. Themed with “renaissance of civilizations, understanding through exchanges”, more than 60 activities will be held by China as the guest of honor, with an exhibition of more than 10,000 books of 5,000 kinds.
Over the past ten years, with the growth of the economic strength of China, Chinese culture has also being sped up to go global than ever before.
In 2004, as the guest of honor in Salon du Livre Paris, the French version of 15,000 books by Chinese writers were sold out in 7 days. “The hustle and bustle is beyond our imagination,” said the writer Yuhua.
Then from 2007 to 2015, China has been made the Guest of Honor at the top-notch book fairs held in many major cities, including Moscow, Seoul, Frankfort, Salonika, Cairo, London, Istanbul, Colombo, Belgrade, Minsk, New York, etc., of many important countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. Dozens of or even hundreds of cultural exchange activities had been launched at these fairs, including trades in copyright, seminars on publishing, communications among writers and cultural exhibitions. During the Frankfurt Book Fair and London Book Fair, more than 300 activities were held in only several days which provided great opportunities for publishers, authors and scholars from China and those from other countries as well as the readers to have face-to-face communications.
