This book features a series of poems written by Ruan Zhangjing, a famous poet and artist of China during a visit to Cuba in April 1961. The author bore witness to the historic moment when Fidel Castro declared Cuba to be a socialist country, with thousands of people shouting and cheering. He also deeply felt the friendship between Cuban and Chinese people. As a veteran who took part in the Anti-Japanese War, Ruan better understood the Cuban people strggling hard to shake off imperialist oppression and establish an independent state. As this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cuba, and also the 70th anniversary of the victory of Chinese people's Anti-Japanese War, the publication of this book in both Chinese and English has a special meaning.
